Their fight drifted to me
carried in the wind;
like gnats I couldn’t swat away
their words hovered at my ears.
bastard useless mistress
She swung her arm, he caught it
She kicked his shin, he lashed out;
a lightningquick fist in her belly.
The wind blew my shout backward
alarming the dozing man behind me.

    What we witness becomes part of our being . . . even if we’re left standing on the sidelines, unseen and unheard.

    Once again, you’ve captured the scene with a modicum of words.

    Eloquent poem expressing the sad truth that those we love oft times become enemies rather than remaining allies.
