IN THE EARLY HOURS

A car thumps by, outside on the rain spattered road;
youngsters, I think and smile.
My dog, snoring in ecstatic little grunts,
makes this room smell of biscuits,
I don’t mind, it’s rather nice.
Beneath my fingers a conversation almost happens,
with a clever boy in London.
As you age, it is said,
you need less sleep.

    As I age I want more sleep and seem to get by with less.
    I want to do more than just get by though and the answer it seems would be to sleep while the youngsters prowl around thumping through the night.
    “estatic little grunts” 🙂
    my little dog growls in her sleep

      I wake up exhausted often, but cannot stay in bed once awake. Strange quirk.
